Privacy policy
Effective 24 October 2026
Rayhana keeps what you put in it on your iPhone. This page says exactly what the app keeps, where it is kept, and the only times it connects to anything outside your phone.
In short
- No account, no analytics, no ads and no tracking.
- Your journal, moods, goals, chats and settings are stored only on your iPhone, and in your own iPhone backup.
- Deleting the app deletes them.
- The app connects to three services, each only when you have chosen something that needs it: OpenAI, Apple's geocoder and Shah Jahan Mosque's timetable page.
- Nothing you put in Rayhana is ever sent to its developer.
What stays on your iPhone
Everything you put in Rayhana is stored on your iPhone: your journal pages, moods, goals, adhkar progress and saved ayat, your conversations in Talk it through, the short notes about you that advice keeps, your name if you give one, the person you choose for the support card, your place for prayer times, and your settings. There is no Rayhana account and no Rayhana server, and the developer never receives a copy of any of it.
If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or to a computer, your Rayhana data is part of that backup, which is yours. Deleting the app deletes everything it keeps on your phone.
If you add an OpenAI API key, it is kept only in your iPhone's Keychain, on that phone.
When the app connects to anything
Rayhana makes only these connections, and each one happens only after you have chosen something that needs it.
-
OpenAI, for advice and the daily note
Only if you add your own OpenAI API key in Settings › Advice and tap Allow. Then, when you use Talk it through or the daily note is written, the app sends OpenAI:
- your name, if you gave one;
- today's mood, goals and adhkar;
- the day's ayah;
- your moods for the past week;
- the short notes about you, which you can see and edit;
- your conversation that day;
- and, only with "Use my journal for advice" on, your unlocked journal pages from the past week and up to three older pages related to what you are talking about.
Locked pages are never sent, and neither is the person you chose for the support card. Requests are sent with
store: false, so OpenAI does not keep them for training. OpenAI's API policies apply to what it receives; you can read them at openai.com/policies.Each message you send in Talk it through is also checked by OpenAI's free safety check. If you tap Not now, or never add a key, nothing is sent to OpenAI.
-
Apple, to name your place
Only if you choose "Use my location" for prayer times. Your iPhone reads your position once, and the app rounds it to about a kilometre and sends that rounded position to Apple's geocoder, once, to learn the place's name, time zone and country. It asks again only when you choose "Update to where I am now".
Your location is never stored anywhere but your phone, and your prayer times are worked out on your phone.
-
Shah Jahan Mosque, for its timetable
Only if you chose Shah Jahan Mosque, Woking, for your prayer times. At most once a day, the app reads the mosque's public timetable page, the same page anyone can open in a browser. The request carries nothing about you.
As with any connection over the internet, each of these services can see your phone's IP address. The app makes no other connections: no analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting services, and no server of its own. Your reminders are scheduled on your iPhone itself.
The person on your support card
If you choose someone for the support card, iOS's contact picker gives the app only the one contact and phone number you tap, never the rest of your contacts. Rayhana keeps that person's name and number on your phone, and they never leave it. Messaging them opens Messages on your iPhone, and nothing is sent until you send it yourself.
Face ID
Face ID and your passcode are handled by iOS. The app only learns whether unlocking succeeded, and never sees your face data.
While Rayhana is in beta
Rayhana is tested through TestFlight, which is Apple's service. Apple shares some information with the developer of an app you test: the email address you were invited with, when the app is installed and opened, crash reports, and any feedback or screenshots you choose to send. Apple's own privacy policy covers TestFlight.
Your choices
- Turn advice and the daily note off, or remove your OpenAI key, in Settings › Advice.
- See, edit or clear the notes about you in "What it knows about me".
- Lock a journal page to keep it away from advice.
- Change your place for prayer times in Settings › Prayer times.
- Save your journal as a PDF, made on your phone, with "Export my journal".
- Delete the app to delete everything it keeps.
Children
Rayhana is not directed at children under 13.
